Colorless, flammable, water absorbent and stable liquid. Medium pleasant smell, slightly sticky. It is miscible with water, acetone, benzene, chloroform, ethanol, ether and pyridine.

It is used as solvent for nitrocellulose, resin, paint, dye, etc. it is a high boiling point solvent. It is also used as diluent and some chemical intermediates. It can be used as one of the ingredients of automobile engine cleaning agent.
